What are the copyright considerations when live streaming through the Echo360 Active Learning Platform

 

• All live streams through Echo360 Active Learning Platform are conducted behind a MQ OneID. Students access the live stream only through their iLearn unit.
   
• Copyright in materials produced (including recordings and live streams of lectures) in the course of a person's employment at the University resides with the University. This means they are the property of the University and the University can use these materials in anyway it sees fit - The University relies on a number of exceptions and statutory licences in Australian copyright law that enable our teaching staff to use other people's material for educational and teaching purposes (including broadcast content, video content that is non-broadcast, music, literary and artistic works during a live stream) - The live streaming of our lectures involves making a copy and communication (electronic transmition) of the lecture (which may include other people's material). Broadcast content can be played during a lecture under s 28 of the Copyright Act and streamed under the Part VA statutory licence. If the content is video but not taken from TV, it can be streamed under s 200AB.
